News for the Week of January 28th

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SHENANIGANS
It was so great to see you all at our STEAM night. Thank you for supporting not only our first graders but all the amazing things all CCE students are doing! Fun was had by all and I love watching all the families explore together.

We have been working hard in math on addition strategies and this week we put them to great use when we added 3 numbers together. We found partners of 10, doubles, and then used our count on strategy to help us quickly add more than 2 numbers.

We enjoyed a parent reader this week. Swara’s mom came to read to us and we enjoyed all the books she shared with us.

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL:
Can you believe that Friday, February 1st, is already the 100th day of school. We have some fun activities planned. One activity we will do is build a 100 item snack. We would love some help with getting items donated to help make this 100 snack happen. If you would like to donate some items please go to this sign up genius and add your name. All items will need to be brought to school by Wednesday, January 30th. Thank you for your help with this. Another way we will celebrate 100 days of 1st grade learning is dressing up like a 100 year old. No need to buy special costumes or anything. Here are some pictures of last years kiddos for some inspiration. This is a fun and silly way for us to celebrate all the hard work these kids have done so far.

PARENT SURVEY
If you haven’t already done so, please take a few minutes and do the parent survey. This provides such great feedback to our school and we love to know what you are liking about CCE and suggestions on how we can continue to grow and do the best for all our students. It is quick and easy and greatly appreciated. You can find the parent survey here.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS:
Now that we are beginning a new semester, please let me know if your child has any after school changes to their transportation (like going to the YMCA) or are participating in any after school programs on our campus such as Robotics, Legos, etc.  If your child is not enrolled in anything right now but will be when classes become available, please notify me at that time as well.  This will help me get your child to the right place each day!

HOMEWORK:
Thanks for your continued efforts at home to provide additional reading time for your child.  We know that, as parents, life is very busy, but your consistency and devotion to this routine will pay dividends in your child’s future.  Reading is the access point to all learning and they are working hard to gain proficiency.

The reading log this month involves a bit of summarizing the selection.  It is meant to be a brief recount of events.  In an ordering error, 2-sided copies of the reading log were delivered through our district print services.  This week’s planner page will be stapled on the side so that our child can turn it over.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

News for the Week of January 21st

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SHENANIGANS

I hope that you and your family enjoy the upcoming 3 day weekend!  We’ve learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. and how his life and dreams of equality have made a big impact on our country and the way we treat each other.  Hopefully your child can share a few things they’ve learned!

We have jumped back into our writing stories and with that we are talking about the writing process. We created a heart map this week to help us when we can’t think of an idea.

This week in the library Mrs. Bamford led our class in creating land forms and displayed them in the library. They turned out really cute!!!

Our school-wide STEAM night is coming up this week on Thursday, January 24 from 6:00-7:00.  Every grade level will have an interactive exhibit displayed in and around the cafeteria.  Save the date because we hope to see you there!
***Please note that parents will need to accompany their children to this event!
We have been working hard on getting ready for our STEAM night. We are featuring weather and objects in the sky. We started our projects for STEAM night this week. We can’t wait to share them all with you next week.
This week our Superstar was Raiya. We really enjoyed getting to know her better. Since this next week is a short week we will not have a superstar. Our pineapple friend will go home with a new friend for the week of January 28th.

Happy New Year! News for the Week of January 14th

ANNOUNCEMENTS & SHENANIGANS

What a great first week back. We shared a lot of good things this week and it sounds like  you all had a wonderful winter break. We were all happy to be back in the classroom surrounded by our friends.

We had some visitors this week! Mrs. Hougham came for her monthly lesson. This week she talked to us about being helpful. This is a great word to start off the new year and I have already been able to give out some of our helpful stickers. we are really talking about helpfulness along with expectations since we are now seeing 2nd grade in sight.

We had our first parent reader of 2019! Blake’s mom came to read to us which of course we love our parent reader time each week.

I hope that you and your family are enjoying this beautiful weekend!

Our school-wide STEAM night is coming up this month on Thursday, January 24 from 6:00-7:00.  Every grade level will have an interactive exhibit displayed in and around the cafeteria.  Save the date because we hope to see you there!

REPORT CARD:

On Tuesday, report cards will be coming home for the 2nd quarter!  I am very proud of the students’ hard work as they prepare for 2nd grade!  I know that our second semester will also be packed with learning and fun!  After looking over your child’s academic progress, please return the envelope in a timely manner so that we may have these on file for the next nine week grading period.

Please keep in mind that a 2 indicated on the report card is exactly were the children should be for most of the skills in January.  It means they are moving along as expected as we cover multifaceted skills that progress across the grade level.  If a concept has been taught to mastery, you will see the change to a 3.  If a concept is still needing a lot of teacher guidance, you will see a 1 indicated.  Those would be great areas of focus for you to boost at home.

STAR OF THE WEEK: Congratulations to our special star this week, Raiya!  We look forward to learning more about our classmate!
