Goodbye 1st Grade, Hello Summer

What a fast and furious week with a whole lot of fun packed in! We really started off this week with a bang and just kept the good times rolling all the way through.

The graduating seniors came back to parade the halls of CCE where they were once elementary students. It is a great tradition to see all these graduates come and visit their elementary schools before they head off to college. I look forward to seeing your kiddos walk the halls during our the senior walk as graduating seniors!

On Tuesday, we had our annual field day. Coach Bernard, Mrs. Martin, and Mrs. Weir really do an amazing job to have a day of fun for our school! The kids had a blast and then we got to enjoy our cookout with lunch outside.

On Wednesday, the Reptile Guy came and shared a bunch of reptiles. I was amazed with how fearless they were with petting all the turtles, lizards and most of all the snakes! They were so excited to get to observe all these animals.

On Thursday, we focused on kindness and wrote a kind word about each of our friends in our class. Take a look at the paper plate that we wrote on. They loved getting to see all the positive words that their friends had to say about them.

We ended the week with our end of the year party. First, I want to say thank you to Alex L.’s mom and Marvin’s mom.  These two ladies have worked so hard this year to organize and plan all our classroom parties and I appreciate it so much. The kids had a great time closing out our year with a late breakfast and minute to wing it games.

We also let all the 1st graders out into the hall to autograph each other’s memory books. It was great to see them all mix and mingle.

We have one more day to go and I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday! If you are already starting your summer and can’t make it on Tuesday, I hope you have a great summer break! Remember to keep reading and writing and I will see you when you come back as second graders!

Have a great long weekend!

6 more days of 1st grade!

Can you believe we are going into our last week of school. It’s crazy to think that this school year is almost over. We of course had a fun week but boy was it busy!

The 1st graders were so excited to perform Wing It for all of you! They did such a great job and all their hard work paid off. I know  you were all proud of your little birdies. I know I was!

We have been talking a lot about plants the last week and we have planted our own seeds and are eagerly waiting for them to sprout.

We ended the week having our last meet up with our reading buddies. We got to hang out on the playground and enjoy a popsicle! We are sad our time with our reading buddies is over but it has been a great year reading with our 4th grade friends.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Comet Kick-Off

We had another fun and busy week. Can you believe we only have 11 more days of 1st grade?! I feel like it’s gone by so fast! Thank you to everyone that came to the 1st grade showcase on Wednesday. Your kids were so proud to show off their work.

Tuesday was also a busy day for us. CCE had our annual Comet Kick-Off, where our incoming Kindergarten friends get a chance to come and visit our school for this morning. This one was special for me because my son, Brady, got to come see what it will be like to be a CCE Comet! To make room for the new Kindergarten friends our current Kindergarten friends came to 1st grade to learn about what to expect. It was so great to see everyone in my class take on that mentor role. They read to their Kindergarten friend and also answered their questions. We had a lot of fun!

We also had a watch dog on Tuesday! Camryn’s dad joined us for the day and read to our class as well.

Please be sure to have your child bring in a reusable shopping bag this next week with their name on it. We will be using these bags to start packing up all their things as we enter into the last two weeks of school.

I hope all you moms have a great weekend and feel as special as you are!!!

Hello May

Can you believe that we are in our last month of first grade. I am so blown away by everything these amazing kids have accomplished this year. They have worked so hard and I know they will continue to push hard these next few weeks. We have been busy getting ready for our Showcase on Wednesday! They are so excited to share all they have learned.

This week, we wrapped up our financial literacy project. They have been earning “money” in class and have been able to spend their money or save over the last few months. This past week, we spent for the last time and they bought fun things like getting to eat lunch with a friend, shoes off in class, bring a stuffed animal from home, or use the teacher’s supplies. A few bought to eat lunch in the classroom with me and were able to bring a friend as well.

Charlie’s dad was a watch dog for us on Thursday and read to our class. It is always great to have visitors in our classroom.

I hope to see everyone on Wednesday so your kiddo can show off what a great job they have done all year.
