Happy Thanksgiving

What a week! I want to say thank you for being so supportive this week. It was a rough week in the Pina household with my kiddos being sick. I know it is never easy to have a sub but I appreciate your understanding. We had a fun and busy week! We learned all about patterns of movement this week. We talked about words like zigzag, around and around, etc. We created some marble paint art as a class. It turned out pretty cool.

We also had a great time this week reading nonfiction books about bats. Kids always love nonfiction units and I know they will be so excited when our big research unit comes up later in the year. Here is our KWL chart we created all week. We filled in things we already Knew about bats, then we filled in things we Wanted to know about bats, and then we filled in things we Learned about bats as we were reading.

Mrs. Bamford incorporated poetry, music, and technology in our story time lesson this week!

We also had our annual Thanksgiving lunch on Wednesday. The kids made turkey hats and they loved eating with all their friends and family members and teachers that day!

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving! I am very grateful for all my kids and I’m excited to see them all back after a week full of fun and family!

Turkey Time

We had another great week. I think everyone is starting to feel tired and ready for a break. Things have been so busy since Halloween and they have been working so hard in class. I know we can push through this next week and then enjoy a week of vacation and rest.

Thank you to all the families that bought books from the book fair for the classroom! I love books and you can never have enough but I want you to know how much I appreciate your generosity!

I LOVE all the feathers you created for our class turkey. You did a great job and these turkeys always look so cool in the hall with everyone’s work as our feathers! If you haven’t seen them in person yet, please make sure you stop by next week to see all 4 turkeys in the hallway. There is one for each class. We also created our own individual turkeys this week. We wrote “Save a turkey! Eat more________!”

We explored capacity this week. We ended our week with exploring capacity using rice, beans, and pasta. It was an explosion in the room when it was all said and done but the kids really enjoyed it.

Today we celebrated Veteran’s Day with our annual program with the Grisham Middle School band, orchestra, and choir. Our own 5th graders performed and led the program as well. That is very special for our kids since it’s their reading buddies up there. At the end of the program, Taps was played and everyone left in silence. It was amazing to see our entire school walk out of the gym in complete silence. They did a great job showing respect to our Veterans.

What a Spooky Boogie Woogie Week!

I can’t believe all the fun we had this week. This was a first for us to have Halloween and 50th day right in the same week like this. It made for some very tired kids (and teachers) by the end of the week. On Monday, we started out the week with Pumpkin Math! Since there are a ton of photos, I am going to link you to my album so you can see them all. They had a ton of fun! We also did some Halloween inspired math that day too.

We continued talking about measurement and we all got to compare how long we were when we were babies. They couldn’t believe how much they have grown.

On Friday, we got to meet our reading buddies! This is such a special time for them. They love reading with their 5th grade buddies.
